What is URKUND?

URKUND, an automated plagiarism detecting software that had begun its journey in a Swedish classroom with a team of teachers and developers. Urkund’s headquarter is in Stockholm, Sweden. You may be aware of different types of plagiarism detecting software and you might be using at least one of them. This content is on URKUND and my own personal experience of using it.

How to Check Plagiarism?

If you are a teacher and working in an intuition where Urkund is being used to detect plagiarism, then you will need to submit your text document to Urkund. You need to login to Urkund.

While logging in, you will get two options:

• Web App
• Admin

As an Admin, you will get access to administer your account or access usage statistics. If you want to check the plagiarism of your text file stored in your system then you need to click “Upload”. You will find a screen as shown below:

While uploading a file, you will have to do following tasks:

• Select Analysis Address (the address you got from Urkund)
• Mention the Subject
• Type the Message you want
• Drop a File or Click to select a file (from your store)
• Submit the File

After submission, Urkund will send you a confirmation message to your registered email address within seconds. It will take only a few minutes to receive the “Analysis Report” by Urkund to your mail with a link. You can access to the report easily.

The software compares the contents to sources online, alongside their linked sources (academic databases), and also previously submitted documents. The final report, known as “Analysis Report,” which is very crucial, is presented with all relevant sources.

It shows sentence and paragraph wise matching against the sources and how significant the similarities are. Based on the report, you can do the editing of the content and mention the references as well if you have missed any.
